Onboarding from a Purchase Order

From a purchase order email to a ready-to-pay supplier account, in one guided flow.

  • supplier-payment-accounts-createCreate a new payment account.

Overview

When a buyer raises a purchase order against your business and you don't yet have an Axiom account, the platform invites you to join and set up a payment account so you can receive payment when the order completes.

This guide walks through the whole journey:

  1. The purchase order email that lands in your inbox.
  2. Creating your account — with a password or Google.
  3. Business details — the basic info we need about your company.
  4. MarketPay terms — accept the agreement that lets you receive payments.
  5. Payment account — Stripe collects the business-level compliance information.
  6. Bank account (beneficiary) details — where payouts will land.
  7. Done — into the main platform, with the PO ready for you to action.

It takes roughly 5 minutes of focused effort, assuming you have your business registration details and a bank account ready.

1The purchase order email

When a buyer raises a PO against your business, you'll receive an email titled "Set up your payment account to receive payments on Axiom".

The email contains:

  • A short welcome and the name of the buyer who raised the PO.
  • A summary of the PO — number, date, items, quantities, unit prices, the total authorised amount, and the bill-to / ship-to addresses.
  • A clear note that you need to set up a payment account to receive payment, and which country / countries that account needs to be set up for.
  • A Get Started call-to-action button that opens the onboarding flow in your browser.

Tip: the link in the email is unique to you and the inviting buyer. Don't forward it to a colleague — instead, complete the flow with whichever email address actually owns supplier finance for your business; you can invite teammates once you're in.

Click Get Started to begin.

2Create your account

The link takes you to a brief loading screen ("Setting up onboarding process") while the invite is validated, then drops you on the Setup your account page.

Your email is pre-filled and locked — it's the address the buyer invited.

You have two ways to create the account:

Option A — Continue with Google

Click Continue with Google to sign up with your Google account. You'll be bounced to Google's standard consent screen and back to Axiom in seconds.

Option B — Set a password

Fill in:

FieldDescription
NameYour full name as it should appear on Axiom.
PasswordMust be at least 14 characters, include upper- and lowercase letters, a number, and a symbol. We also check against known data breaches — if your password has appeared in a public leak, you'll be asked to choose another.
Confirm PasswordRe-enter the password to confirm.

A live indicator next to the password field shows which rules have passed (green checks) and which still need work (red icons). Once all rules are green, click Create Account.

Whether you chose Google or password, your account exists once you finish this step. From here you're walked through the onboarding stepper.

The onboarding stepper

After account creation you'll see a step-by-step progress indicator showing exactly where you are in the flow. The steps are:

  1. Business detailsabout 1 minute
  2. Payment accountabout 2 minutes
  3. Beneficiary detailsabout 2 minutes
  4. View purchase orderabout 1 minute

You can't skip backwards once you've started Payment account or later — those steps depend on what's been entered before them.

3Business details

The Business Details page asks for basic information about your company:

FieldDescription
Company NameRequired. The legal or trading name of your business.
Company DescriptionRequired. A short description of what your business does.
Website URLOptional. Your company website.
CategoriesRequired. Pick one or more categories that describe what you sell. These are the UNSPSC categories buyers see when searching for suppliers.
Company LogoOptional. Upload a JPG, PNG, SVG, or GIF. Buyers will see this on your supplier card.

Click Continue when you're done.

4Payment account

This is where the platform's payment partner collects the business-level compliance information needed to verify your business. Supplier payment accounts are provisioned through one of the platform's payment partners — currently Stripe or Airwallex; the platform chooses which one backs your account, and the flow looks the same either way. Bank details are not asked for here — they come in the next step.

Pick a country and accept the terms

FieldDescription
CountryThe country in which the receiving business is registered.
I agree to the MarketPay terms and conditionsA checkbox linking to the MarketPay terms. You must tick it to continue.

Once both are set, click Continue — the page transitions to the embedded compliance onboarding widget.

Complete the embedded compliance widget

The compliance widget — powered by Stripe or Airwallex, whichever partner backs your account — is embedded directly in the page (no redirect). It walks you through everything the partner needs to verify your business, typically:

  • Legal business name as registered.
  • Business type (sole trader, limited company, partnership, etc.).
  • Tax / registration identification number for your country (e.g. company number, EIN, ABN).
  • Business address.
  • Beneficial owner / director details plus identity verification documents for each person.

The exact fields vary by country and business type — the partner shows you only what's needed for your case.

When you finish (or close) the widget, you move to the next step.

Tip: have your business registration document and a photo of the director's ID ready before you open this step. Most stalls in the flow happen here, waiting on someone to find a passport.

5Beneficiary details

The Beneficiary Details page asks where payouts should actually land — your bank account. This step uses Airwallex to build the form (the same provider used on the buyer side for trusted-beneficiary checks), and the resulting beneficiary data is attached to your Stripe payment account once saved.

The fields are loaded dynamically from Airwallex based on your country and the transfer method you pick (local bank transfer, wire, etc.), so the exact set varies. Common fields include:

FieldDescription
Transfer MethodA radio card for the rail (e.g. Bank Transfer, Wire Transfer).
Account Holder NameThe name on the bank account, exactly as your bank has it.
Bank CountryThe country in which the account is held.
CurrencyThe currency the account receives.
IBAN / Account NumberYour local equivalent (IBAN in Europe, sort code + account number in the UK, routing + account number in the US, and so on).
SWIFT / BICRequired for international wire transfers.

Fields validate inline — errors appear directly below the field they relate to so you can correct as you go.

Click Continue once every required field is green. This is the last input step.

6View purchase order

Because you arrived via a PO invite, the stepper finishes with a View purchase order step that shows the order the buyer raised — so you can see exactly what you're being onboarded for.

The PO page shows:

  • The PO number, date, and the buyer who raised it.
  • The line items: descriptions, quantities, and unit prices.
  • The total authorised amount.
  • Bill-to and ship-to addresses.
  • Payment terms and any attached purchase / delivery terms.

Two actions are available from this page:

  • Accept — confirms the PO. The order moves into your active workload and the buyer is notified.
  • Reject — declines the PO with a reason. You stay onboarded but the order doesn't proceed.

7Onboarding complete

A short confirmation screen — "Onboarding complete!" with a success animation — and a single button: Continue to platform.

Click it to land on your supplier dashboard. From there you can view the PO you just accepted, message the buyer, add teammates, raise invoices against the order, and manage your payment / beneficiary setup.

What got set up behind the scenes

Once the flow finishes, the platform has done several things on your behalf:

  • Created a supplier record for your business.
  • Created your user account and linked it to the supplier as the first admin.
  • Linked the supplier to the inviting buyer's client, so their team can find and transact with you.
  • Approved you for the inviting buyer's store so you can see and accept their POs.
  • Linked your supplier record to the inviting PO so the order is sitting on your dashboard, ready to action.
  • Created your Stripe Connect payment account holding the business compliance information, with the Airwallex beneficiary data (your bank account details) attached to it as the payout destination.

You don't need to do anything else to start receiving payments on this PO — just deliver, invoice, and the funds will land in the account you registered in Step 5.

Tips & good practice

  • Have documents to hand. Stripe will ask for business registration and director ID at the Payment Account step. Five minutes of prep means you don't have to break the flow.
  • Use the right email. Your account is tied to whichever email completes the onboarding — use the address that should own supplier finance long-term.
  • Choose categories carefully. They affect discovery by buyers. Pick the ones you actually transact in, not everything you could sell.
  • Don't share the invite link. It's single-use and tied to the invited email — sharing it just confuses things.

Troubleshooting

The link in the email says it's invalid or expired. Invites expire after a fixed period. Contact the buyer who raised the PO and ask them to resend it — they can issue a fresh invite from their PO.

I can't get past the password rules. The password must be 14+ characters with upper- and lowercase letters, a number, a symbol, and not appear in a known data breach. Try a passphrase ("twoTomatoesInARed#Box") rather than a short complex password — easier to type, easier to remember, and almost always passes the breach check.

Stripe is asking for documents I don't have. Stripe's requirements are set by financial regulations in your country. The most common stalls are: business registration certificate, proof of address for a director, and a photo ID for each beneficial owner. Gather those, save them as clear scans or photos, and resume the step.

My country isn't in the Country dropdown. Stripe Connect doesn't yet support every country. If yours isn't listed, contact your buyer — they may be able to onboard you via a different route.

I closed the browser mid-onboarding. No problem — the invite link in your email will resume the flow at the step you were on. If the link doesn't work, ask the buyer to resend.

I accidentally rejected the PO. Contact the buyer directly. They can raise a new PO; rejection on this screen is final for the PO itself.

Need help?

If something's stuck, contact your buyer first — they can re-send the invite, raise a fresh PO, or escalate to Axiom support on your behalf. If you need to reach Axiom directly, include the PO number from the email and a description of which step failed.
